If its October, then its time for Oktoberfest. And if your not in Germany, then head down the 401 to Kitchener/Waterloo!
To figure out why that is the case, you have to look at the history of the area. The original name was Berlin (1854 until 1916) before it was changed, after the WWI, to Kitchener. Many of the original inhabitants were Mennonite, with a German background.
So with that, the Thanksgiving Day parade is held to celebrate Oktoberfest.
The parade started with a motorcylce demonstration by the police.
Next year is the 100 year anniversary of the War of 1812, and a group of re-enactors were on hand.
Kitchener is a smaller city, so I guess they only need small buses for their transit system!
And I guess that goes for the fire department as well!
There were dancing groups,
as well as lots of bands,
And as any beer festival would include, there were lots of beer lady's on hand!
including Miss Oktoberfest 2011, Brittany Graul
After the parade, you could head to the main headquarters at Oktoberfest Haus (Wilkommen Platz) in downtown Kitchener.
